Playable Race: Worker Elves (Elves) Enemies: Santa Claus & Co. (Frostlings), Bumbles & Elf Slavers (Dark Elves)
Background to Christmas Nightmare
Once a year, the boys and girls of the world receive toys from a man known as Santa Claus. He travels the world delivering presents and is generally thought of as a very nice guy.
This is a lie, however. The other 364 days of the year, Santa's factories work nonstop at churning out drugs, weapons, cheap knock offs of designer products, and those little Beanie Babies that no one can ever find.
The toy delivering racket is just for PR purposes and to throw off the C.I.A.
Working 16 hour days in these factories are Santa's Elf slaves. Living in deplorable conditions, the Elves churn out the goods to keep Santa's vast empire running.
Now, Binky, leader of the worker Elves, has gotten a group together to overthrow the jolly tyrant's reign. From a secret underground base, the rebel Elves plan to strike out and free the rest of their kind from Santa's iron grip.
Unfortunately, Santa has found out about Binky's plot, and is assembling an army of fearsome Bumbles, a group of evil Elves and hired mercenaries to crush any and all opposition.
In the midst of this, Bucky, the leader of the evil overseer Elves, has plans of his own. Using the chaos of the rebellion, he plans to seize power for himself.
It has become a race against time for the rebels to destroy Santa and defeat their overseers before their time runs out....

Nice story. Makes you really wanna beat up santa....
Some teleporters are used. I don't understand why, and I don't like them.

This map was pretty good, all it needed was a little bit better design, still a good map. |

Playability: 3
I found it to be a difficult map, but the story was intriguing enough that I had to try it several times.
Balance: 1
I would say this map is hard. Only once did I come close to winning...maybe tried it 10 or 15 times. I found that if I sent 3 nordic glows into the teleporter, captured the large cluster of builders' guilds, built flame throwers, and teleported them back to Santa's castle that I almost won. But ever since then I've had trouble capturing and holding the level 3 sites. So does the AI adjust to previous games? I don't think so; maybe I just got lucky that one time.
Creativity: 4
The bumbles didn't seem to be integrated into the story very well....they defend the wizard's tower...the spell didn't seem crucial though.
Map Design: 4
I once had Santa on the ropes, and the only way I could win was by producing more nordic glows and flame throwers. Nothing else could get over the mountains. In some ways that's an annoying feature, but in others it makes the player win by thinking. But maybe I have given away too many spoilers.
Story/Instructions: 5
The story is really clever. It does make you want to beat up Santa. I would recommend an easier version.
Additional Comments:
Ah, after playing the map off and on for some time I finally did solve it, in a way similar to what I described above. I think the AI doesn't react to the player however I think it does cycle through some strategies.
Possibly there are other ways to win, although with Santa's troops being very powerful, I don't think there are many. The dark elf is powerful but not much of a challenge after you beat Santa.
