Another one in the series of Warm Crevice maps by Roger the Rampant, this is an evil vs evil 1vs1 map. Playable races are Dark Elves and Orcs. These small maps are ideal for playing by email; in this one there are no player-accessible teleporters, and to make it a bit more of a strategic challenge there are only level 1 and 2 cities. Hint: that makes dungeons particularly important on this map, but be warned, they are heavily defended!
Various spats had taken place in Warm Crevice over the years between the good and the evil races, but the good had always been outwitted, and the Dark Elf leader Black Knight had finally taken total control of Mirkwood, in the southern part of the shire. The keepers were distraught that an area with such fertile soil, lucrative gold mines and historical significance had fallen to the cult of storms. The Orcs, Goblins and Dark Elves all prospered in such luxuriant surroundings, and the area became filled with the evil races, as more and more heard about this magical land of milk and honey
Then, predictably enough, the first murmurings of discontent started to ripple through Mirkwood. There were mumblings about "illegal immigrants", and racist attacks started to become more frequent. Black Knight was a superb tactician, an excellent strategist, and his skills in the art of war had given the Dark Elves their dominant position in the shire. But a superb wartime leader is not necessarily a good leader in times of peace, and dissenting voices started to be heard, initially a whisper but becoming ever more vocal as the economy started to slump under the weight of an ever-increasing population
Then a war veteran, White Knight, started to promise better things to the people of Mirkwood. She played on their nationalistic prejudices, hinting at ethnic cleansing and a severe reduction in the local population, and holding out the panacea of renewed prosperity. She quickly built an enormous following, as everybody assumed it would be somebody else that would be expelled from Mirkwood, and that they would be one of the chosen few that were allowed to remain. She did nothing to dispel this obvious gaping hole in her political rhetoric, building the nationalistic fervour ever higher
So Black Knight, a ferocious leader that had built an awesome reputation for ruthlessness and savagery, found himself being portrayed as inefficient and too kind-hearted! Things came to a head when sympathisers of White Knight incited rebellion in various cities throughout the shire. It was time for Black Knight to stamp his authority on the region in the way he knew best, the art of war!
Needless to say the keepers, who were watching from afar, were delighted by this insurrection and ill feeling, and took every opportunity to make things worse. They tried to find ways of undermining both leaders, but they were particularly vehement towards Black Knight, who had engineered their downfall in the region. So they watched nervously as the new fate of their beloved shire started to unfold before them
