From the darkness of Numenor across the sea, ere the wrath of Iluvatar destroyed her, few among the Faithful reached the shores of Middle-earth. As the thousand ships of cruel Ar-Pharazon sailed west to the Undying Lands and the armies of mortal men laid claim to deathless Eldamar, the island kingdom from whence they came sank beneath the waves. Yet the spirit of Iluvatar was preserved in a handful of her people. Elendil and his sons, upon the very hour of war, midst the world's upheaval, refused the summons of the King, and fled before the twilight of the West.

Now Elendil reigns as King of the Dunedain, the last, shattered vestige of the Faithful. Though few, they are the Men of Westernesse, whose pale likeness recalls in Middle-earth the glory of Numenor before her decadence. No grief shall they suffer idle. Along the seaward vales of the Ered Ninmrais, nigh upon the River Anduin's meeting with the Bay of Belfalas, there is a great rebuilding underway. Through loss and bitter sorrow the blessing of Iluvatar shines as a light in their eyes as new settlements rise between the mountains and the sea.

Yet to some the future bodes darkly. None forget the lies of Sauron, the Dark Lord whom Ar-Pharazon brought to the Island Kingdom as prisoner years before its doom; nor the deceptions that played upon their peoples' fear of death and so inflamed their resolve to attain the immortal shore. Perhaps a remnant of Numenor's evil survived the cataclysmic plunge into the abyss, taking for itself only a new form. Few among the Dunedain are willing to believe Sauron survived; but there is a shadow brooding over the ashen walls of the Ephel Duath in the east, in Mordor, the Dark Lord's former realm.

As rumors fly along Anduin, the lore wardens of the King speak quietly of a seer of legendary power, with whom Elendil might discover the truth. Lothlorien was her realm of old, an elven wood far north of the Falls of Rauros. However, even among the wise it is feared that Lady Galadriel, whose Mirror is said to contain the gift of prescient vision in shifting reflections, holds for mortal hearts a fate more perilous than the lies of Sauron….

*tip: When you’ve found Lady Galadriel, wait until the computer players end their turns before looking into the Mirror and recruiting Gil-Galad. Otherwise, the diplomacy screen has a way interfering with the pop up text.

special instructions: When entering combat in water-cave entrances, Warlock has recommended Auto rather than TC. The TC map that comes up is the standard entrance, and water bound units cannot move on it. :)
