Map Description: Play as either the Venezuelan Government (Humans) or the Indian Tribes (Azracs) in a medium-sized themed map about Venezuela in the early 1800s.
Background Story: "Mene" was the name the South American Indians gave to what we now call Petrolium. After Asphalt and later Petrolium was discovered in Venezuelan lands in the 1900s Many concessions were given to international companies from Britain and USA because Venezuela was not able to take it out themselves. But many years later the Venezuelan Government decided they were capable of doing it themselves and war started over the oilwells. The Government (Humans) Intend to take by force the wells in posession by the International Companies (Britan - Elves, and USA - Lizards) who are currently expanding to land wells and cities. On the other hand, the Native indian tribes are searching to expand to upper levels and destroy the oppresing government. The international companies have been in peace for decades but after the war started there have been discussions that leave their place in diplomacy uncertain. The goal is to capture the 9 most important oil wells, which are the 4 wells in the center of the caverns, the 2 wells inside the lake of Maracaibo, the 2 wells in the frost cave of Los Andes and the one said to be defended by an undead indian tribe north of the caverns. The wells installed above water can only be taken by ground units so make sure to take units in your boats when you sail to conquer them. The more wells you hold, the more power your empire will gain so take good advantage of that. The first faction to capture and hold these oilwells -- or destroy the other factions -- will be declared victorious.
Guerillas in the Colombian border to the South-west, the snowy region of Los Andes to the South-east, the petrolium mines all under the ground, imprisoned heroes, defended artifacts, a battle that will most likely be decided in the underground by the dispute for the wells, dangers everywhere and the foreign companies attacking from the north, this will be a battle to remember in the history of Venezuela.
Will the Indian upheaval be succesfull and Venezuela be peacefull? Will the Government gain control and greed and corruption will rule Petrolium Explotation and Venezuelan economy (which will be 90% petrolium) forever? or will the international companies colonize Venezuela or destroy each other? Heres a chance to remake history, in real life Greed and corruption from the government still wins nowadays
Author Comments: This was originally a submission to the winter themed mapmaking contest, now changed a lot thanks to the thoughts of the judges and fellow Aow players who gave this map a chance, I hope whoever downloads it enjoys it, and please rate after you have played
Author Hints: You must take advantage of all the death nodes you can get to quickly research and cast spells, and remember the goal is to capture the 9 main death nodes, don't get yourself caught up in surface battles when the opponent might be dominating the underground, where 7 of those 9 nodes are. |

This was very fun to play; the quick start-up means you can start the carnage straight away. The advantage of being neutral is really exploited here, with Good and Evil units easily accessed. This score took a hit from the unfortunate placement of the computer AIs. They were clever enough to actually move to the mainland, which surprised me, but they just weren't a force. By Day 30 the Lizards had huge armies coming at me but I had already conquered the majority of the map. A teleporter with a fire block on it or something would have made them much more frightening over time. Really, the only competition are the Azracs.
Balance: 4
Both Azracs and Humans have perfectly good chances of winning, but the Humans have more going for them in terms of purchasing independents. The lack of a threat from the northern companies hits a little.

Nothing like making what you know! I really enjoyed wandering about Venuzuela and seeing the sights. I really liked the little tidbits underground and on the surface, its a shame the map is so bare! I took more out of map design

The map really worked. The cave systems were entirely arbitrary as they were intended - there was no need to explore at all, but the option always existed to the players. I just did a little exploring on the side. The surface was really fun to move across, with speedy reinforcement in the more barren north and slower overland travel in the more populous south. This map was a real treat as the layout really worked.
Story/Instructions: 4
A good spin on Standard Oil and the old 1980's debt crisis. The Government holding order? Good. American Indians taking their land back? Great. Lovely signage and taught me a few things about your country.
Additional Comments: Fair play, slip! I really enjoyed playing this map and hope you have some others for me to take a look at. Something about the layout of Venuzuela really worked for this scenario, its just a shame about the AI north - they could definitely be turned into a force. Cheers for making this! |

hey crazyslyhawk thanks for the input, with your input and the comments made by the judges of the mapmaking competition I will now make a better version of this map when I have some free time, I'll make sure to make the AI races more of a threat, and will make more ways to go through on the underground to make it more interesting, plus there will be a totally different objective, capturing oil wells (death nodes) |
