Capture the flag (CTF) was originally an outdoor sport where two teams each have a flag and the objective is to capture the other team's flag and bring it safely back to their own base. Opposing players can be "tagged" by players in their home territory; these players are then, depending on the agreed rules, out of the game, members of the opposite team, or "in jail". If in jail, the tagged person must sit in jail either for a pre-determined time limit, or until an untagged member runs through the jail, often requiring tagging a member of his team in jail. When that team member is freed from jail he is allowed to return back to his territory without getting tagged. However, the team member who freed him is not safe, therefore they can retrieve the flag and/or run back to their side. That is of course the traditional game of 'Capture the Flag' before the advent of computer gaming.

The first computerized game of Capture the Flag that I know of was released by Richard Carr in 1992. It was an MS DOS based game which required players to move one of their characters onto the same square as their opponent's flag, as opposed to bringing it back to friendly territory. Limitations with Artificial Intelligence prohibited the condition of returning the flag back to the base. Possibly the first first-person shooter to feature Capture the Flag was Rise of the Triad, released in 1994 by Apogee, while the first real-time strategy to feature Capture the Flag was Command & Conquer in 1995. However Capture the Flag did not get its proper recognition until it was first introduced as a modification to Quake by the company Threewave. After that the game became a staple for all sorts of games reaching the height of its popularity with the release of Unreal Tournament by our friends at Epic Software. You know, those guys that released the smash hit game Age of Wonders by Triumph Software.

But due to a gross oversight at Triumph a Capture the Flag mode was never introduced. Until now....

This is a three way capture the flag map for Age of Wonders 1.36.53 (the original version)

In this scenario you play as either Team Green, Team Orange or Team Yellow. It is possible to play with only two players. If you do please set one team to CPU emperor.

Each team has Two capture the Flag objectives:

For Team Green:
Capture and hold Burnewwod and Yurla

For Team Orange:
Capture and hold Linnwood and Aztor

For Team Yellow:
Capture and hold Regeant and Garrison

The Rules:
1.0) The Game must be played with Leaders off.
2.0) No customizing of leaders is allowed.
3.0) No customizing of magic spheres is allowed.
4.0) Certain Spells are banned. These are Warp Party, Town Gate, Summon Great Eagle, Summon Frog, Water Walking, Wind Walking, and Liquid Form. The latter five spells would only come into use if you chose to break Rule 3.0.
5.0) Razing of Teleporters is banned

Optional Rule
1.0) You may not build walls in the caverns or depths.

As with all my scenarios the final rule is to enjoy.
