Dear everyone,

Finally, the wait is over!

Please download the unofficial patch v1.5 here.

Due to pressure from team members and supporters on this forum, we could simply not delay the release any longer. And so, we wrapped it up this past week. It does mean we won't have a complete list of credits nor an elaborate documentation of changes. Moreover, there may be a few cosmetic oversights as well as a few small bugs that slipped through the cracks. I leave it to the modding community to build on, and improve, this patch, just like some did with v1.4!

The good news is that the current version is playable and frankly, quite amazing for mapmakers. You will find 3 maps shipped with the patch (labeled with the up15_ prefix) and you can try them out for yourself to get a small taste of what is possible. One of them is a single player made by me (Dalgdrom's Pass) and the other are two clever multiplayer maps made by Enginerd. Two more maps by Albaron and PawelS are nearing completion and will be released soon. I will have to say that a lot of the new content is not obvious at first sight, and you can discover a lot by experimenting with the editor.

I would like to thank a few people in the team. Most of them have been there from the start and have worked hard to get this product where it is now. PawelS has been instrumental in the completion of the patch. He's made installers, units, and figured out how to mod things that we thought were not possible before. Beastfeast and MagicIceFlame have been adding some amazing landscape content and units, some even made from scratch. Albaron has done a ton of unit exports for you to enjoy. We cannot forget Enginerd as well who was always positive and followed through on work that needed to be done. I think that the patch probably would have been released next year without the Groll complaining once in a while. Make no mistake, though, we were not going to give up on this patch. Timing wasn’t always ideal but this thing was going to get released someday.
Last, the modding community, certain organizations, as well as you guys have been extremely supportive with contributions, ideas and encouragements.

Yay.. This patch finally made it. How are you Swolte, Groll, Naeco, everyone? Haven't played AOW:SM in ages. Im excited to see the 1.5 make it. I probably might get back into AOW:SM again. Still have to complete my pending maps for my Tales of Matunmura series.

Is there a changelog, or if not could you tell me what sort of balance changes were made?

As far as I know it's just racial pioneers and a whole load of cool mapmaker stuff - is there more to it?

We didn't do much balancing considering that would have required a few more years of testing!

The coolest thing added in the patch are the new models for all the different hero-class-race compinations. I have made me custom heroes for all of them and play random maps. It's awesome. Sadly the patch broke random map generator so you need to do quite some work after generating a random map.

So I am not really sure where to post this, but here goes.

First I want to thank the people that made the patch, it is awesome that it is still being kept alive!

My friend and me started a new game yesterday and thought we would install all the patches as well because why not. After struggling with router port forwarding a bit we were in the game and it was great... till we encountered some of the buildings and units not really loading (being invisible).

Some new buildings loaded like the life node, death node, air node etc... but some did not like the fire node was invisible and the eagle unit as well. They would only show when they were dead.

Is this a known issue? Can someone help us with it? If not, is there any plans to fix it?

A unit being visible only when dead suggests the graphics files are all available, just not properly assigned to each animation. You can easily fix this yourself, it's not complicated - you might just have to invest some time getting used to modding.

Open the Map Editor and go to Edit Resources.

For missing unit graphics go to Settings>Unit Bodies, select the unit in question. Then have a look through the bar showing unit animations for a bit, then press Generate and try to select the right numbers for each animation, until it looks right.

For nodes and suchlike go to Map>Tiles>Places , select the Fire Node in question, go to settings for the node, and check it has the right .ilb assigned.

Thank you for the advice and the offer... I think we will just stick with 1.4 as that seems to just work.
