The original is on Impule? I think I will get it when I update Elemental to v1.08.

Sorry, Groll, but with the game available for purchase for the decades to come, I am afraid that the "thing" is not going to be released to the public anytime soon. "Things" are released only for dead games. And AoW is ALIVE, and kicking!!!

On the other hand, if the game still sells well after 7 years, maybe there could be a third epis...

What I hope for is that they do something like Paradox does - they allow modders to make their own games based on Paradox' older titles (EU2, HoI2 etc.), and then sell them on "digital download services".

If TS is willing to do something similar, I'm definitely interested in making a new AoWSM-based game.

How long must i wait for it to be on Steam?

Has anyone downloaded the total pack or just AoW:SM yet? I am wondering because the only one I bought was the original AoW so far. I noticed that AoW2 and AoW:SM are not yet 'officially' for sale...

Any issues with the usual mods?

All the individual downloads for Impulse work and are compatible with existing mods. Having all of them, I have not tried the Trilogy pack but I assume it is the same.

I've purchased, downloaded and run AoW:SM using the Impulse link above. It seems to work fine (a little stuttery in a Parallels VM though). It comes installed at v1.30.0.2616. Haven't tried any of the patches yet - I played the heck out of this when it first came out, but am only just figuring out what mods and stuff are available for it now.

It seems Stardock has disabled the ability to purchase Shadow Magic and Wizard's Throne (and likely the Trilogy set). Previous downloads still work, but if you do not already have them you will have to wait longer.

I just grabbed age of wonders from gog.com - looooove that site. Anyway I thought of trying out some mods so I downloaded rule changer and dark lord. I installed both and followed instructions, but now when I try to launch the game I get the msg, please insert cd. The game worked fine before installing the mods.

One of the reasons I bought it was to check out the mods so this is slightly disappointing. Still worth every penny, you just don't find games like this these days. And the music, so so beautiful.

Yeah. Stupid Stardock caught on :/ I really wanted them all now but I guess hey don't like money because i'm going to buy it from gog now.

Could anybody give a short report on the copy-protection measures these sites are taking on purchased AoW software?

For Impulse, it is the same as the protection used on there other games aquired through the same method it seems.

Overview:
- When running Impulse, it connects to Stardock's server and gets data for your account about what games can be played.
- You can download any game associated with your account that is not already installed, and do so on an infinite number of computers.
- When running the game(s) it seems to check some local (on your machine) data source created by Impulse about what games the last account you had logged in as has registered to play.

No internet required after download to play, and you can get it again as long as Stardock does not disappear. Other download sevices may do it diffrently, of course.

I have downloaded a bunch of games from GOG.com lately. There's no copy protection, once you buy the game it's yours and you can download it again at any time. They also offer free downloads associated with the game like manuals and other stuff. Good site.
