This's first, perhaps even last, time when I post to this topic but that Mastery Spell poll is too important thing to just pass.

Yes! I think Mastery Spell should reamin in spell book but it should be changed to be more like in AoW I times.But if Stranger and other strange people ain't willing to change it, then it shouldn't stay in book and I'm willing to say No darnWay!.In my opinion that spell is boring in the way it is now.

Mastery is way too overvaluable. It wont make much difference in many games, at least if u cast it later than 50 turns. Rather add cosmic mastery than remove any.

Lose the Mastery Spells; way too powerful to convert nodes all over map on all 3 levels. If you want to do that, you should have to send out very powerful, i.e. very expensive, stack of flyers/flying transport with a powerful hero to throw Alter Node.

Does mastery give you control of nodes with indie guards on them? If so, what happens to the indies? Can you change how mastery works in any way?(other then the various costs) Can the master spell slot be used for any other spells?

Hey stranger are you gonna be online this friday? we are gonna be laning aow from 6:00pm-the next morning PST, so maybe we can "playtest" the undeads

I and I shouldnt say that I dont play the undead, I just dont win with the undead. Orcs, Dwarves, Archons, they all trounce the undead. But in a two on two situation I think the undead are a very powerfull allie. Perhaps we could try something like that out. Or even a 3 on 3 depending on whos available.

No, it's not possible to change the spell. Removing it would mean that a player would get all his sphere's spells.

The indies stay the same: they own it until they are killed. The node assumes the features of its sphere.

I am also in favor of removing the mastery spells. As one who has no experience in modding this game, I ask you whether it would be possible to add a new spell for each sphere in its place.

You mean for those whos spheres selection would need to be moved to cosmo sphere in order to keep all 5's? How many spheres would that be the case in with level 4 spells?

But can the spell slot itself be used for another spell?

We usually play with full Turnbased Combat, even against the comp. We try to pick maps that dont have an overwhelming amount of neutrals to hack through, or just go Randoms. And so far we either do 2on2s or 3 player FFA, but we are open to any style of play.

If indies are the problem when u raze nodes, then just make those indies weaker. It makes unbalance if mastery spells are removed, since then only earth sphere can get good vision of map with earth aweraness. If mastery cost 75 mana per turn it gives u just negative mana income in the end, when all nodes are razed on map. And it can be disjuncted.

Btw count my vote 5 times, since others votes dont have any argumentation

I think that Mastery Spells should stay.

Someone said that it's to powerful because it alters all nodes even on 3 levels (surf, ug, shadow world) - well, it's called *MASTERY*. Not to mention that it costs huge in research and in casting.

I think that this issue is related to the current spell distribution Dwiggs has. I mean, if they would be removed to provide room for one more spell, I don't think that is a reason.

I downloaded the AoW 1 manual couple days ago, it was nice to see that for example Life Mastery would make Death spells cost double, and when any mastery was cast, you would get a unit/ elemental at each node too. But that's not possible in AoW : SM, only Air Mastery increase flying units movement as an extra effect.

There are spells which I think CAN be removed from the game, instead of mastery, if the goal is making the spell distribution more like 5 spells per level, which I think SHOULD be done, in my opinion. I don't particularly like being Earth Specialist and never getting Stone Skin... but that's me, not having a certain spell guaranteed (like Air Spec and Wind Ward) changes a lot the gameplay because of that expectation.

Ideas:

- Air: remove Recall Hero (lvl2), it could be cosmos.
- Earth: Remove Level Terrain (lvl2). Maybe even Raise Terrain (lvl3).Did anyone ever even used those spells? I have, and IIRIC, their use is very limited.
- Fire: Not sure here. I don't like Wildfire, but some players do.Some spells like Forge Blast (lvl3) or Anarchy (lvl2)might not be missed; AI uses it much more often than humans...
- Water: Mist Cloak (lvl1)? Nothing can contribute to sneaking if you still see a hero domain...
- Life: hard to choose with 7 level 3 spells. I think Resurgence (lvl4) is hard to see in games, and kinda unfair in heroes because they can keep resurging.
- Death: Animate Dead (lvl3) is the most useless spell in my opinion.Need one more maybe City Plague

I also would like 5 spells/lvl so I can research every spell. I don't really have a opinion if Mastery should exist or not but I want to comment Merkraads ideas for changes.

This is another spell; Haste Domain, not Mastery.

Level terrain now costs 20 mana in dwiggs instead of 50 in original. I think it can be useful to cut a path for your army if you wish to pass a mountain chain. Raise Terrain could be useful to block passages in to your domain, it costs 50 mana, 80 in original. If those spells are not useful enough they should get lower mana cost so you can cast more and get better effect.

Fire has 3 city spells; Forge Blast, Wither and Anarchy and that's 2 much. And I've never used Mist Cloak.

No, Resurgence is not unfair, compare it to other spells. It's hard to see in game because it's lvl 4. Remove Turn Undead instead.

City Spell, Shadow Walking, Shadow Shift and Spell Ward should be removed or moved to secret sphere.

Anyone knows if Power Leak drain gold or mana and how much %?

Ok then a later start may be in order, 9-10pm is cool with us, that may be easier for stranger as well.
Some of us may be on earlier, we will leave a post in the forums tommorrow before we get started.

To be honest kaskoid, so far I havnt done anything more extravegent than a 2on2 except for the occasional 3player ffa, and we almost always lan the game.
I would love a 3 on 3, if you and stranger show up, we can do us 3 Vs 3 of my friends that would be fun.

We have alot of variation in skill, including someone who just started the game 3 weeks ago so I sure we can make some balanced teams.

Anyways looking forward to this friday

Mastery spells should stay, IMO.

No time for a lengthy post, but Animate Dead is probably the worst spell in the game.

Timelord...good sir...if I change my mind and indicate that I want Mastery, will you change yours and state that you don't? Anyhow, I've updated the poll. I assume Air is for them staying, but he hasn't commented officially yet for the purposes of this poll.

Mastery Spells are too powerful?? They are supposed to be the ultimate global spells in any sphere and as such, should be that powerful atleast.
Even with Mastery active, its possible to have negative income in mana if the nodes cannot be retained. Mastery spells are also powerful only when you have other domain spells active or have powerful summons/good global spells. Further, mastery can always be rendered useless by destroying the nodes themselves.

So, while Mastery spells are powerful, they are not as powerful as in AOW1 where they can have side-effects on their own.
Balanced? I would certainly say so, though increasing the casting cost a little might make them better balanced.
Bad enough to be removed? Certainly not.

I still feel that changes should reflect only balance suggestions...if we are going down the path of like/don't like, the tracks are likely slippery and a derailment cannot be ruled out.

I'd like to test a patch I've been working on. It's small (1mb) and easy to install (extract two files). If that sounds workable, I'll email it to all interested parties tommorrow morning. It should, among other things, improve the Undead. I may even play them....

Animate dead can be very usefull spell at least in dwiggs. Many make tons of low lvl units and undead low lvls are prolly the best, even with few hps they can last 2 hits cause physical protection.

animate dead is useful if its from special undead building while spell that targets only 5 corpses isnt anything good. also i saw hero with resurgence couldnt resurge after warlock animated his corpse, seems animate dead can give such result too and if yes its even more useless. same with corpus furia that targets 5 random corpses.

There are two different Dire Penguins and you have made the wrong one buildable in frostling barrack. Penguin 279 is the wrong one and Penguin 16 is the right one.

Any progress at all made on dwiggs 1.4 noninstall problem? You said timelord was to deal with it stranger? So whats happening with that?

Anyways I tried to reinstall it, Im not sure if it still gives the unable to alter ILB errors, since the window text flies by now with a "1.4 install complete!" But all the same units are invisable.

Invisable units
Green wyvern, Frost giant, Moonstone Joe, Magician, Tame lion, Corrupt ent. (thats most of them I think)

Along with a number of invisable heroes.

BTW, I found 9 path units under "frostlings"

Also, please send me the patch stranger.

I think Blinding Flash should say it lasts for 3 turns in description and Scholar say it gives -20% less research for skills as well as for spells.

As far as I know, there shouldn't be a problem with invisible units or heroes after the install. I hand-checked all heroes and all of them should be visible. Same with the units. For me, a number of units/heroes that were invisible before were corrected with the install.

If any of you are having invisible units, please send a list of them to my email id (in profile). Posting here might be of help but it is entirely possible that I will miss those posts in this multitude.
If any corrections are necessary, these will be done only with the patch Stranger has been working on and not separately.

I did list them, at least most all (unless I missed one or two) of the regular invisible units in the very post you replied to.

The heroes are more difficult, because the images for the heroes don't come with names so I can't just look through the editor for any hero who's graphic doesn't show and write it down (or at least I don't know how) Is the only way to determine which hero graphic belongs to which hero by comparing relative position in list in resources compared to library? Problem is, that doesn't even work for me after the first row because only the first row match up.

Would you be willing to send me the ILB's of those units so that I might see them?
