Joep,

I was hoping I could use your artistic skills to draw some new spell icons for the new summons. Also, Swolte told me that city icons could be altered--that is how many new structures were made for the 1.4 patch, i.e. cutting and pasting city tiles then working with them in Photo Shop. We need to harness some of your lurking artistic talent!

Speaking of Sir Swolte, you have mentioned that PawelS has a program that would allow a modder to add the new abilties to different units, possibly heroes...could you tell me more about that? Also, can a 3/3 ranged attack be generated for every ranged ability? I.e. could Hurl Boulder be changed to Hurl Boulder 3/3 with a different attack type (such as a snow ball attack for Frosties!? D) )?

Hehe, I would love to try a bit Maybe someone can explain me how I can open the spell book pictures, and with what program I can alter it and in what fashion...

I heard somewhere we can't really add random structures? Can we have 2 structures images for one structure, so it's like 50% it appears? I just ran into this old AoW I structure, which I would love to have as a tavern (link: http://aow.heavengames.com/gameimages/loststructures.shtml

Also I'd prefer the draconians with a bit more lizardly like beings. I hope the big blue frog doesn't degrade to the 'hiring bin'...

I think editing the spell icons would not be so hard. We would need to extract them from the Ilb file and edit them in photo shop or something. All we would need would be creativity!

That Inn would be cute....we could easily edit the inside shot and make it into an event image as well. I think I did that for the last Dwiggs version, but that was so long ago...

Big Froggy could stay. Perhaps we could make Drac Growth ability into Frogonian Ballooning, which would cause the lurker to turn into big brother...

Swolte has indicated that two structures cannot occupy one structure slot in the Random Map Generator. I.e. you cannot have two graphics for a campsite. Is that right Swolte (please see my questions in above post also )

Hmm, that doesn't sound too hard. What units would you like me try to create and replace? I can post some examples of things I made in here.

I would like Dread Reapers to have Pass Wall back, take whichever other you will regeneration or resurgence, by realistic nature they should have pass wall and really should be pratically invincible to mere mortal units.

DM was just flat wrong for changing this in the regular game, but, being it was a MP mod anyways I expected stupid changes.

I was thinking that the Hell Hound picture would need to be redrawn as a Salamnder like thing.

The Dire Penquin would need to be redrawn as a mushroom headed nature elemental.

I'd also like to add a summonable Syron unit to replace the Rift Lord, so we'd have to draw one of those too.

What do you think? I could give you some, uh, rough drafts. You've already seen my Leonardi Da Vinci like work, I believe...

the Pass Wall seems to fit the Reaper to me, especially as level 4s are rare and must be very powerful in Dwiggs. Unless someone raises a very good objection, I don't see why it should be taken off it (in Dwiggs, at least )

Hehe, I can still remember attacking Big ben's fortress with those things... Finally got some together after many a turn, I entered his fortress with all sorts of machineries that made flames, hurl firebombs etc. The reapers didn't even have enough hitpoints left in the end to pass the wall at all I think the desperately need it, with slow movement and not too well stats in def/res/att/dam (think something like 13 overall)

Ah, the Big Ben days....

I don't think there would be a Dwigg Mod still if he hadn't bullied us into trying it

By the way to anyone interested: I could really use help recolouring units and structures, so if anyone would like to lend their talents, and share their name on the mod, I and the potential players would no doubt be very appreciative. To the sir: I'm afraid that I really need some visual clarification on those ones... Feel free to mail them to me.
Minor thing to me would be that the 'lizard race' will be no longer starting in the ug, or if that's not fixable, should have some decent 'lairwatcher' that has a good vision in the ug. It really is bad to play dragon stuff and end up in the tunnels.

Yes, he will release this program soon. It is currently in a form that it's not very user-friendly.

A 3/3 ranged attack can be realised for every ranged attack. You have to keep in mind that it allows three shots. This means that if you make Archery (3/3), ALL shots are depleted in one combat round.

'Snow Ball'-attack is possible, but you have to be aware you cannot change the name of the ability unless you want them all changed. For example, Hurl Boulder would also be called Hurl Snowball'. Since v1.4 patch-users now use [English] as a language, it is very easy for modders to modify 'hardcoded' names. You could call the ability 'Hurl Projectile'. We did the same for the patch with the structure names, and it's not always pretty, but shoudl be worth it, imo!

I'll ask him when I see him (I think he took a little AoWoliday (I can use that myself as well... ). TurboBeholder can help you as well (you have access to the old devforums, so you know who to ask)

As for the Reaper, I think it makes the unit less unique to give it passwall. It basically functioned as a big Spectre. Without passwall, I would actually consider building a spectre.

Anyway, I don't care that much and everyone his own opinion. I wouldn't mind seeing the 13/13/13/13 dogma broken although I heard the one that will, shall become 'unlucky'.

You certainly have earned your holiday. Thank you for your very prompt response! As for me, I'm afraid its no rest for the wicked. In regards to the Reaper, I see your point too. I just always imagine Death stealing through the window at night, unheard and unseen. But maybe that applies to the AoWI Reaper, which was much cooler and interesting, in my opinion (Invoke Death, where art thou!?).

I assume the 3/3 means I can shoot 3 times in a day...does it mean I shoot three javelins one after the other and then all are gone? That wouldn't be musch good against a unit with 1 hp, although it's good to make sure, I suppose

To the Other Sir,

I'm not sure how the Draconian Underground thing works. I don't know if their placement in the UG can be avoided. In the event that it can't, perhaps a few units with night vision can be added. After all, those creatures just hatched were used to seeing a lot of darkness while inside the egg...

It's possible and (I've talked to PawelS about this a lot) to remake this ability from the 'Strangle' one (you would have to rename strangle into something more generic -> Good luck ).
The ability could do a max of over 150 damage, I believe (enough to instantly kill a lot instantly?). I liked that ability a lot!

Yes, you have 3 shots a day. The Archery ability has three shots per use, so it's gone in one combat round/day. Shoot Javelins is also 3 shots per use, and therefor depleted after one use.

lol, Swolte I need to find a way to distinguish your "Sir" from the others sirs around here. After all, I don't want Joep getting upitty....

I am trying to think of names right now for "Strangle," but the best I can do are politically correct phrases such as Inhalation prevention, enforced oxygen deprivation, etc. I'll keep working at it, though! That ability would be great to have, and would make the Reaper an interesting and unique unit again! Would it be a 3/3 thing as well? Or maybe a once per turn use? At any rate, if PawelS could get it working, I will send him a present of his choice from New Zealand

I would like to do something like hurl skulls, as per the medevil tactic, so a 3/3 hurl poison/death would work for that!

Here's something I created rather soon, I didn't manage to imply the image in the library somehow. It appears as an empty image, I think I got all the colours correct (132 = blue, and 16 bits), all other colours are black. Maybe someone knows what I did wrong? Here's a bit of a beta photo, which I stole from the original AoW I nature elemental. (that's the one you intend to use, right?) I blurred it, made the circle beath it, etc. I can make a bit of a better version rather easy (picture should be a little lower inside the circle and such), but let's first see how it works in the spellbook.

And I suppose you're right about the path of decay thing, but my main idea for the black fog would be that it would work as a transport, with your units travelling inside of it.

Yes, work has begun as far as I know. I would like to offer my services stranger, if you want me to do any descriptions or statistics/balancing/general playtesting or whatever. I don't have that much skill in modding in general, but can easily learn any specific skills you want me to. I'd love to help.

Thank you very much for your offers! I will email you both soon. If there is an area you prefer to work with, let me know. Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated. The main need that I can see is in recolouring units and structures, as well as bug testing.

The new version is underway. I have transferred all units and unit bodies, and am looking into adding new ones. I have also updated all productions, and am considering what changes, if any, to make to certain structures.

Joep, I think this will work out fine! Now, can you change the head into a mushroom shape? (I'll send you the graphic I plan to use if you want). As far as changing the image into an acceptable ilb, I know how to do it, but I've got to get back in the ilb editor and do some work to help me remember. It's been about 6 months since I edited any images. Timelord has instructions somewhere on how to do this, though I can't remember the thread right now. I'll look later Thank you for your bold start, sir!

I'm afraid I don't know much about graphic editing, but stats, testing, descriptions, ect. I can do.

All the heroes will have thier own unique ILBs and resources in the next version correct? I hope so, I think it will add an entire new level to an already amazing game!

I havn't loaded up photoshop since highschool though but I did have some skill back then, I would like an excuse to get back into it.

Hello Gentlemen,

and yes, each hero will have its own graphic. This will cut down a bit on the heroes, but they will be very valuable and unique!

If both of you would like to try your hand at descriptions, I've got a lot of units that need them. You can choose those units that suit your imaginations

For undead heros, I'm thinking a vampire hero (dracula perhaps?) and possibly even the grim reaper/death (good use for your 250 damage strangle, haha)

EDIT: I Noticed PawelS made an ILB library for spells which colored each spell to represent it's sphere. Think we could get that nifty feature in dwiggs? You'd have to modify it, as you've moved spells around.

Ofcourse the beholder like being should become a bit smaller if it wants it's chance as a lvl 1 like stuff Furthermore I have no real idea how the devil looks like in game. I gave a different colour to kirky's mod, the 5.0 dwiggs, and the new patch. Also some imp like stuff would be cool, do we have anything like that? I couldn't find the nightmare in dwiggs 5.0 mod, has it disappeared? I thought of it as a nice unit

Anyway, my internet computer doesn't have AoW installed currently (still traveling, technically), but I would like to post some pictures of the new racial units soon. For those that would like to write some unit and hero descriptions (I really appreciate this), the following units need descriptions:

(maybe you guys could claim some, and post the ones you've chosen, so that we don't get multiple descriptions..I'll try and post some pix when I can transfer a photo)

Astra (flying female with fire attack), Condotierre (Human warlord for hire with leadership and poison weaknes...lots of people want his job), Bloodmage, The Drowned (Undead water walker), Gnoll Halberdier (Taunt and Round Attack with Pole Arm), Cenataur Veteran (charge and pole arm), Evil Ent (path of decay, entangle), Stone Minotaur (stone skin, wall crushing), Amazon Huntress (Archery, trap, control animal), Nightengale (sweet singing bird with true seeing and vsion), Werewolf, Gorgon (flying lion with doom gaze), Undead Liche, Stone Giant, Dwarven Steam Barge (Dwarve Boat, like an Iron Clad for you Civil War buffs).

Swolte: On technical note, would it be possible to assign Invoke Death to an attack that challenges resistance rather than physical defense? Could we assign it to seduce, for example, and give it a minimum attack value?

As far as I know, not without altering the strangle ability itself.

Assigning it to seduce won't work, as you need a 'touch-attack'-ability, that does damage. We tried to do the same before, and ended up with Strangle as the best candidate.

I don't think we've ever gotten to test it (renaming strangle went a bit to far, although Kaskoid had an excellent suggestion) but in theory it should work.
