I thought this forum would be a nice place to start an initiative. Those of us who have spent a lot of time mapmaking know that it is a long journey. A journey full of discoveries and insights, but also many frustrations!
Lets start a series called: The making of...
Take your favourite map you made and start a topic. For searching purposes on this site, please have it start withThe making of..., followed by the title of your map. Each post, you can elaborate on a big or small aspect of a map that has an interesting story or 'lesson' attached to it. It would be great if you can add pictures of your map to illustrate things with. Using screenshots (Prnt Scrn button on your keyboard) you can take shots. If you like, you can send them to me, and I will (after some time) host them and provide you with the link to have them show in your thread.
I hope that this way people might get inspired to start taking on mapmaking and appreciating the art and effort even more. It might also become a valuable resource of knowledge, because making a big map is a huge learning experience. Lastly, I think it can also be a lot of fun. I know some people put a lot of personal stuff in their maps, and it would be great to learn more about these legendary maps and what went on in the minds of their creators!
Current list:

The making of brothers and sisters
The making of Across the Wyrding Sea
