Darkelves, day 24
Today we found a potentially useful spell. My armies continued cleaning up the former elven lands. Many of the former elf queen's soldiers have become outlaws and roam the woods, posing a potential threat to travelers and my incomes.
Elsewhere, we seem to be in a classic stare down with the cardinal. His forces are arrayed in a tight formation, blocking our further advance. We will have to ponder our strategy if we wish to avoid heavy losses storming their position.
Still as yet no sign of the orcs. We prepare defenses for every conceivable assault, whether it be from underground, over water or by air. Our enemies are allied against us. We possess power, yet their combined might likely matches ours. It will be a sharp and bloody contest, and my troops know it shall not be as bloodless as the war against the elves.

Darkelves, Day 25
Our faceoff with the archons continues. As the last of our reinforcements races to catch up, the generals form up the ranks in the best defensive position they can make.
This is the most obviously false peace in the history of all warfare, yet neither side will declare war first for fear of a first attack. On the other hand, should either side attack, the first strike from the defenders will likely cause heavy casualties.
Both sides now send out spies into their enemy territory, both wondering how far such spies will be able to go before the peace is broken and they are killed.
There is as yet no sign of the orcs, yet they cannot be too far off. We continue our work of cleansing the former elven lands of outlaws and restoring order and unity to their people.

Sorry guys, but I once again have laptop issues. Screen broke when my son dropped it. My fault I guess for buying a small, easy to carry laptop. This is the third screen I've had to replace! The part is ordered and should arrive in about a week. Unlike last time, I would prefer to wait to play the turn and not to switch to my old laptop, since the game is at a crucial phase and I don't want any restarts. So hopefully have the turn played early next week. Sorry about delay.
James.

Darkelves Day 26
Our plans are delayed yet another day. I have the troops digging holes and filling them in again just to keep them busy.
TS
Apologies for restart. I honestly don't know why I got one. It never gave me the "This qualifies you as a cheater, are you sure you want to restart?" thing, I just opened the turn and there was a restart message. The only thing I can think of is after I installed my new screen I had trouble loading windows and had to restore to a previous version. It said any recent programs might be lost but I don't think that should affect my turn counter. Really have no idea, but if I was going to generate a restart anyways I could've played this turn weeks ago on my old computer.

Lost some nice units in a much needed battle.
Elsewhere, the queen comes up with the finest amidst her ranks, for sure: 2 puny purple-flag stacks are spotted down the road. Pffff!

Could everyone please stop talking about my skirt
Also, don`t suppose Lord Skeletor might like to elaborate a bit on this upcoming final battle - how many turns is it away, what kinds of forces are coming and where exactly they will strike - such information would be greatly appreciated and would earn my undying gratitude.

After gathering a nice defense over the tower city in the far west, the Skirt Lady is finally moving forward with her puny forces up the road. Slowly but surely, they advance with the safety and conviction that only a nice feminin piece of wearing provides. And yet...

Today, at last, our plans come to fruition. With our air force less than a day from his capital, we finally declare war on the Cardinal.

Holy crap Naeco, did you just recently take that third tower? You don't know how close I came today to knocking you out of the game. I don't remember seeing your domain in the underground before so I'm guessing it was the last couple of turns. My finely tuned plans need a bit more tuning.
As for you, Lord Skeletor smarty pants, I'm gonna make your death slow...

Darkelves Day 33
"Someone is speaking to me... yes. Galadriel, my lovely prisoner, my prisoner at last. I've won. I've won. The darkness is rising to embrace all of you."
We tighten the noose around the cardinals neck, approaching his new capital and laying waste to his lands. Even if he somehow obtains another tower, it won't be long before his armies begin to starve and rebel.
Elsewhere, the forces of Lord Skeletor have struck a terrible blow... by taking a water node and retreating. Oh, the agony!

Darkelves, Day 34
Today we once and for all sent the Cardinal to the void. It cost us a dragon, but we can always breed more. Now all those armies of the red flag fly grey, and sit leaderless. We shall hire some, kill others and let any who pose no threat be. Our forces are needed in the northeast, our final opponent. Lord Skeletor shall now feel the full weight of our massive armies. The columns of infantry stretch out for miles, the herds of cavalry shake the very ground, and in the sky the wings of our dragons and fliers blot out the very sun. From all directions they are on the move, with but a single destination, a single target: the lands of the black flag.
Good game Naeco. You threw a lot of twists and turns at me that forced me to change plans again and again. I always intended to go after you first, since in previous games with you proved what tough opponent you are.

I really like these smaller, quick four player maps. If there's one thing I can't stand its when a game drags on for years and you end up with only a couple of the original players. Also, the longer a game drags on the more likely it will just end up dead. I'd be up for another like this if anyone else is (Morgul, you lisening?). Sorry to hear this is your last game here Albinscott. I'm trying to remember if we've ever played together before this map. I really enjoyed the movie quotes, though I didn't get the source of your material right away. I don't know if I'll switch to AoW3 right away. I kind of like SM. I hope not everyone switches permanently. Of course, there are still people playing AoW1 so perhaps I shouldn't worry.
Fliers were definitely an advantage on a map with such obstacles to get to each other. The bridges and tunnels served as excellent choke points for defenders, so you either have to find another way in by water or flying, or invade early. I first tried the former, but later used fliers to mount surprise attacks.
Another advantage I had in this map was early access to seducers, namely vampires. I started producing them around day 5 and soon had an impressive 4 vampire, 2 black spider stack. I had deliberately by passed many income structures and resources guarded by low level seduceable units, and my "press gang" went through them like butter. By the time multiple press gangs had cleaned out my home territory, I had massive armies I hadn't paid a dime for. Of course, they were pretty weak and would have done a lot of dying in any battle, but they made good fodder to allow the better units to live. I was actually sorry I never got to kill any off in battle, as they were costing me a fortune.
I intended to attack Naeco first, and was quite aggressive with an early invasion, but then two things happened:
1. Naeco moved a considerable amount of force into position before I could do any serious damage.
2. An Elven glade runner from Morgul started taking resources in my territory.
I killed the glade runner but proposed peace terms to morgul, which he rejected, given I'd just killed his unit. But then Naeco proposed peace, and I was able to reinforce the northern front with flyers, which became the decisive unit for me. I killed morgul without even losing a unit. While his army moved to engage my large invasion force, he left his wizard basically alone and my fliers swooped in and killed him and took his tower in the same turn. All his units went neutral, most just garrisoned in the city he had them defending, and I got a whole new realm and massive increase in income and got to keep my invasion force intact.
Basically, except for a brief five days of real peace, my border with Naeco was unchanged. My massive army on the doorstep, his massive army keeping me there. We were at peace for most of the game but really we were at war. This stalemate lasted for a long time, but I was putting together an air force to launch a sneak attack.
I actually used a similar tactic on Naeco as on Morgul, though it didn't work nearly as well since by the time I attacked he had gained another tower I hadn't planned for. I was gonna use it on you, Albinscott, if we had continued.

Do you want to try a 1v1 or look for a couple more players? The diplomatic relations are more fun with multiple people. I don't mind a slightly bigger map, say large or even extra large, as long as it isn't full of events or really strong guards and terrain that slows things down. I like fast expansion, fast conflict. Four players, good ones, can keep a decent pace of a turn about every 2-4 days.
Or we could do a 1v1 where we know it will be fast and bloody. If so, I suggest a Fubarno map, there are some I havent played yet. I remember him having very detailed, entertaining two player maps designed for fast conflict.

How about Prison Break, Key of Kharzul or Centraleon UP1.4 version? I've played Key of Kharzul once, a long, long time ago and never really explored much of the map. Played Centraleon when I first got Wiz Throne in Single Player, and again in a PBEM but both were a long time ago and never got far in either. Never played Prison Break before at all.
I will set up a recruitment thread for two more players.
