OK, I agree that discussing future tournaments is premature and anyway should be done in a separate thread. But for the record I was just speculating that teams might have certain advantages: as AW just said, if one player couldn't play the turn, a team member could play for him or her. I also noted that it's advantageous in "free for all" games to make temporary peace agreements under the table, so it might actually be more interesting and put everyone on more equal footing to just declare the alliances in advance. But I really think that right now we should focus on completing the current round of the tournament.
Recently (on 11/15) Enginerd posted some recommendations that I think would be very helpful in keeping the games moving. He emphasized communication, e.g. posting in the turn logs (even if it's just "turn sent") so it will be possible to figure out where the turn is if necessary. It's also important to say something immediately if you notice that there are no new posts for several days. More specifically, this is what he said to do in that situation (and I think it bears repeating):
1. Post in the turn logs looking for the turn
2. Send an email to the player asking for the turn
3. Send me an email (or copy me on the one you sent) so I can help and get involved
4. Post in the absentee thread looking for a sub
Doing this is the only way to detect stuck games and get them unstuck. I'd like to emphasize the detection part: there's no way anything can be done about a problem if no one notices, which seems to be one of our biggest problems. I can think of several instances where I contacted a player only to find that they hadn't received the turn or didn't realize they had it. In that sort of situation the game remains stuck indefinitely until someone notices. So every time I post in the turn logs I check the whole list of threads - it's easy to spot a stuck game because it appears towards the bottom of the page. This takes very little time and I think everyone should do it. I'm optimistic that things can finally start running smoothly if we're all just a bit more vigilant.

Xiados has gone AWOL... If anyone has heard from him let me know (I've tried 3 times). I'm ready to have him surrender all his games. If you send to him then open the turn, surrender his forces and send to the next player (or send the turn to me and I'll open it and surrender for him).
@Zsaber - I sent the turn to Thorongil more than once. I've got more freetime with the Holidays, I'll see what I can do.

lol... you think it would be THAT easy to claim victory!
Been gone all week and only had one turn in my inbox from these tourney games when I got back.... I'll check on my other games and see what I can find out as it could be the same culprits playing slow in my games.

Definitely agreed. As a small community in the shadow of the glory days, we must take responsibility for maintaining games and related matters into our own hands where possible. If we can do something decent and well-intended without rousing a veteran like Enginerd, than I by all means encourage that as well. What's a little friendly message to a player to re-jumpstart a game compared to waking a perhaps slumbering giant?
