As always I'm flirting with the idea of a mod, or just thinking about it....
I was wondering if there was any potential to introduce a day/night cycle, as well as a seasonal cycle, by possibly using scripts to switch out the terrain.
If you imagine someone has laboured to swap the various GRASS/DESERT/SNOW/STEPPE graphics with something like SUMMER/AUTUMN/WINTER/SPRING, and then WASTELAND as NIGHT - is there a more convenient way to script the terrain changes outside of the scenario editor so on each turn all the non-water terrain can get changed?
For context I was thinking of a mod where all the races are based on woodland animals, so they'd be affected differently by times of day as well as seasons. If there was any way to apply buffs to certain creatures with buffs in the correct cycle that would also be awesome - but I fear at this point it's becoming an entirely new game...

Well there's a spell to reduce vision within dominion that fits with Night Time.
And some kind of mod plus script to fire off lots of low damage storms could changfe terrain.... you should try joining to aow1/aow2 discord servers and especially talk to The Groll on there.

Thanks for the pointer! I'll go seek him out.
In a perfectly moddable version of the game, there's be some extra abilities like 'GRASS BLESSING' or something like that - with some extra triggers to confer them on certain turns to races with that ability.
I'll see what he says!
