Hi All,

I've found here the unique way to edits units, because no other mod tools for units are founded in this great forum ( also I'm asking how the brave new world mod has been done if not so much supporting for modders like in the Age of Kings forums exist here) but I think this unique program tool is sooooooooooo limited in what can be edited, just because it don't allow you to add more abilities nor new medal abilities, but just to replace the existing ones!

BUT I DONT WANT TO REPLACE, I REALLY REQUIRE TO ADD, so how the famous mods edits all the various new units?!?!

Thanks in advance to all,

Greetings,

AƒƒÄ the Cleric

If you use vanilla (1.3, UPatch 1.4, Upatch 1.5) use editor with custom resources to add abilities in settings/units. If you use MPE Evolution - use mod editor. If it crashes - make separate mod with 20 units copy paste in base editor, edit it in Mod Editor and copy them back.

If you had problems installing mod editor with MPE install you can download it here:

Yes, but I don't want to make a new mod, I just want to replace the original files without selecting any mods.
use editor with custom resources
I dont want to mod units just for a single map, I want that all of them remains modded for random generated maps and campaigns...!

I think I know the answer - make custom resource. Don't change anything. Then overwrite base resource with custome one. And don't forget to backup.

Ok but how to create my own custom resource?!?!

1. Open AoWSMSetup.exe - mark "Custom resources"
2. In editor there will be new menu rsources. Make new one %)

Yes yes, I already managed to do so, thank you very much!
Never seen a game that came up with an incorporated mod tool supported by the developers, I though was necessary tons of external and third party programs in order to edit the game, instead, the solution has ever been concealed under my nose!

Now I can finally edit units as I wish!

But another 3 questions appears in my mind that this editor doesn't allow me to do:

-1-Editing heroes, I read here the procedure, but still didn't try it because it don't be too clear in my mind, so if you can guide me better Sir!

-2-Spirits quests, I saw that the editor has a tab about this but, it just allow me to edit the "infidels" groups units that will randomly spawns for the quest, none of the other quests can be edited nor the rewards for completing quests even exist for modding, so how can I do it?!

-3- Third but not least, the random generated structures on the strategic map cant be edited in any tabs, so I wish to change the guardians for example for the dragon peaks and change the available units for hire in structures like rogue's shack, circus or druid circle, how the BNW or Dwiggs managed to do that?!

Hope most of these things are not hardcoded to the game exe, because I really really ever hate the word "hardcoded"

You can edit core heroes types and graphics. Also you can add new ones, and create libraries with them, but if you don't want them to be default graphics (for ex. for elf palladin) it should come in the list before elf palladin.

As for quests - they give spells, items and units (if they aren't coded in event on the map with some special reward like drowning your opponents towns in lava). All these rewards could be set somewhere in spells, etc.

As for random map generator I actually don't know, cause best scanarios aren't made with random gen. If Hellbrick releases source codes of his mod editor, we could have completely new rmg if somebody going to write it even (it could use even neural network if somebody code it). It's possible even now with his SDK.

And the coolest feature of AoW editor - it can copy-paste objects (even between different editors).

Ok, i'll test it out and let you know, but as far as i understood i can only create 2 different graphic model per class, so for example 2 different human warriors but not a third one?!?

Am i right?

Please explain me better with a deep step by step guide from scratch!

Yes i noticed that spells can be added to the quest reward for the spirits directly from the spells tab but the units, they can't be added as reward anywhere...

As i expected it was hardcoded... Ah, nevermind

1. Create hero body in the end of the list - elf paladin #1
2. Create Hero in the scenario or base library

elf paladin #1 - is the default one

1. Create hero body in the end of the list - elf paladin #2
2. Create Hero in the scenario or base library

elf paladin #2 - is the default one now, so to create elf paladin #1 hero, you need to change elf paladin #2,3,4 to syron for elf paladin #1 become default. Then you can create a hero and change everything back - it will have graphics from
elf paladin #1

IIRC just copying and pasting into its own slot is enough to make the template default (update the hidden number).

I tried it. If the hero is not on the end of the list for its type it doesn't work.
