Turn 1 - Julia of the Elves

Julia surveys her surroundings to find nothing worthy of facing her might armies. One of her scouts happens upon a reflecting pool which tells of riches towards the center of the map. It also revealed the locations of the other powers potential friends or foes, only time will tell. She sends her maidens and her hero off to dispatch some undead from a crypt only to recover some halfling's ring. Neither Torgal or Julia dares to wear the foul ring. Julia then spends the rest of the day sending her troops in various directions to locate some more treasure.

Our armies marched closer to a few treasures. The next day should be most profitable. We claimed a water node and prepare to head underground. We sent envoys of peace to our two apparent neighbors.

Hey guys, I really screwed up on editing this map. Somehow about 8 stacks of what should be neutral units gaurding resources in the middle of the map, above and below ground, were changed to blue units, my units. Believe me this was totally on accident. I need to re-edit the map and start the game over. Please bare with me. This was my first time editing and I have no idea how it happened as I didn't mess with anything outside the 4 players starting areas.

I have no problem with continuing the game with those units as blue. It doesn't bother me. Oh...but it is your units colors too...ah I see. OK...disregard my e-mail too.

Julia of the Elves - Turn 1 (Take 2)

The Undead defenders of that crypt seemed mightier than the last weak bunch we faced. Torgal barely escaped with his life, but got a nicer ring this time. We claimed a mine and a tower and set our sights ahead for more territory. We again sent envoys of peace to our neighbors.

I have this strange sense of Deja Vu...I wonder what caused it. No matter. I explore.

A messenger nearly out of breath came to tell me that Julia offers peace. I scoff at this early attempt at gaining my favor. Julia must do much more if she desires peace with me, our dark elves still have been slighted by Julia's race.

Day 1: Nimue

I gaze from my wizard tower out into the tranquil bay. My ship, the Mermaid, glides out towards the outer waters where great treasures have been envisioned from the magical pool discovered on this day. But all is not serene for the three other wizards on the coast of the Inland Sea also have seen the same visions. I fear much blood will be spilled into these sacred waters from which I draw my power. War is on the horizon.

The wizard of the Elves, Julia, has proposed a peace with us but we must observe her actions before we can be lulled into serenity.

Nimue turn 3

My jolly buccaneers aboard the Mermaid made landfall in the middle islands and find them to be most pleasant and peaceful with much booty to be found.

Other forces searching the dank and dark tunnels that honneycomb this ancient land have a more unpleasant task as it seems that its denizens are quite unsavory and unfriendly to say the least. A repopulation program will need to be instituted once we conquer these unclean settlements.

Today has been a good day for the Elves. Our troops have conquered a nearby frostling village. We are currently in the process of relocating the small creatures to a colder environment in order to make room for more Elves. Their settlment has greatly increased our domain (although we can not see all of it).

Nimue: turn 4

Peace will be observed with Arachna although the beautiful islands don't seem quiet as serene with these interlopers of death magic.

Strangely, 4 giant spiders offered to join our cause on the island and they were most helpful in defeating a group of renegade halflings.

The Mermaid is replenished and our crew makes ready to sail again.

A peace with Nimue has dictated that the spoils of the islands will be divided, which was acceptable, as Nimue and myself arrived almost simultaneously.

My forces are planning to search the islands for any other treasures that Nimue has left behind, and then embark on new quests of discovery and acquisiton.

Nimue - turn 5

I was quite upset to hear of Julia displacing the Frostlings from their lovely coastal town so, after we fed the Elven ship into the holy waters of the Inland Sea, our buccaneers captured two Elven towers and spied the powerful Elven forces that are doing this deed. We gave warning to them to leave this town or suffer the consequences.

Also a knight cleared out a small village of Undead and we began the slow process of purifying the unholy grounds.

We are deeply disturbed by the human aggressors. We have no quarrel with them, yet they chose to stand against us. We know they seek the frostling city for their own. Our forces, although weaker than the human army, will defend the city to the last. We are willing to negotiate with the humans for the city and it's frostling inhabitants, but we will not simply walk away.

Argh, another map editor bug...

I reported the blue independents bug to the developers. It happened to me on a map I was creating from scratch. Fubarno, you said the editor also did some other strange things when you editted the map besides just the blue independents. I loaded The Inland Sea (the default one, not the editted one) in the editor and I checked the settings on all the units in the middle of the map. All of them are set to either guard or guard area and should NOT be friendly to anyone. In other words, those 4 spiders you're about to kill me with should not have been willing to join you. I know I'm complaining, but I would rather not get killed in my first multiplayer Age of Wonders 2 game by a map bug.

posted 08-13-02 06:10 PM EDT (US)     34 / 333
Hey guys. I don't know whats up, whether it's a bug or not, but it was unusual. They offered to join me for 200 gold and I don't remember this happening in any other games I have played. I placed my curser over the other units in the islands and the crossed swords appeared so no others where willing to join in the parts of the islands I could see. When you posted the bug thread did you get any response?

I don't know what to do. I certanly don't want to spoil anyones fun. Do you guys have any suggestions or thoughts on the matter?

posted 08-13-02 07:45 PM EDT (US)     35 / 333
I don't see how it could be a problem...the spiders would have joined anyone I'd think and I had no spiders offer to join me and I'm the spider queen...heh. I say chalk it up to randomness. Moral of the story...don't edit the map.

Arachna - Day 6

Many groups defending resources were defeated today, it was costly though, many soldiers were lost...but it was worth the cost.

My next major acquisition will be the underground tigran village my secondary force has just discovered, after that, more empire building.

PS-I had something wierd happen with the disk I used to transfer the savefile off my computer so I could e-mail it, there are now two files...one with underscores, one without. They are probably the same file, but I sent both anyway.

Rightous Froggy: first off I want to applaud you for posting in the bug reporting bbs the bug we have encountered. I will add to your report this occurence too, with the spiders, if you haven't already.

Well, as to our game? I just took my turn and did what I strategized to do. The results were not in your favor. I would completely understand if you didn't want to continue, but hope that you do continue. I haven't heard yet from izaquos but revealos has said continue. Of course this event hasn't effected him in game terms. I realize you're taking some lumps but lets play it out, for fun.

Nimue - turn 6

The elves tried to propose a trade for this town but my buccaneers were instructed to attack because the Frostlings are good friends to our cause and we had nothing to offer that was expendable. The battle was hard fought and when the dust cleared, the Elven ranger and the 2 iron maidens where slain along with 1 of the spiders and 3 swashbucklers. Our hero was unschathed in the battle. Fine magical items were stripped uncerimoniously from the dead Elven ranger.

I have no intention of quitting. Although, I am honestly crippled at this point. I had 2 field armies basically. One of them was the one destroyed by Fubarno. The other was scouting the underground when they were ambushed by Area Guards. I will carry on. I would be unfair to both myself and you three if I did. As Fubarno said, it's all for fun.

It is a dark day for the elves. Not one, but two of our armies have fallen. All we have left is our city garrisons. We will bide our time, whatever little of it we have left. Our forces may be severly weakened, but we shall continue on.
