I'm not sure if will solve the CD problem but it just might....
If I understood your post you performed the following steps:
1) Installed MM from CD
2) Installed MM patch
3) Installed 1.36 patch - this is where things may have gone wrong. The MM CD is already patched to version 1.36 and you don't need to install the 1.36 patch. This may have caused the problems with the CD as it may have corrupted some files.
4) Installed Warlocks ruleset
My recommendation is to uninstall everything, clean up your AOW direcories and try again. This time skip step 3 above. Let me know if this doesn't work.... and welcome to the forums.

Hmm. Ok, I installed the game to another directory. Yes, the game is 1.36 (checked in game w/o original patch). Without the the original patch, the patching in Warlocks has failed.

Ah hold on, Medieval Masters is part of Age of Wonders? And you want the ruleset Warlocks Rules for it!?!?
I am confused. >.

It is a pack bundled with AoW and Tzar. I think I also got the strategy guide it came with. :P

I'd be interested to know what happened that you couldn't get Warlocks to work. AFAIK Warlocks should work fine with the MM install of AOW. As others have said it may require your CD with those rulesets, not sure, but it should work.
Also, it is inappropriate for us to continue the side discussion about a no CD crack as it is in violation of the HG Code of Conduct.

Considering you can buy Age of Wonders for around $5.00, it's probably not worth spending the time/effort to look for a crack. Not to mention that you run a high chance of getting a nasty trojan or virus from the sites that would have such a thing.
Just go buy it. Steam has it.

Good info, makes perfect sense. I began suspecting CD checks due to other resources not present rather than CD checks for the purpose of DRM earlier today and did some file comparisons, but as nothing was viewable in plain text (and I didn't bother with hex), I didn't come up with which files between Warlock's and Lighthawk's were the difference. I spent enough time on it and am happy to just mount an image I made of my original CD for use with Lighthawk's.

Thank you for the information but no, there's no need to contact him. I ripped my original to ISO and it's no trouble at all to keep it mounted for a while as I play AoW1. The rulesets work just fine and I can easily switch between Warlock's and Lighthawk's.
