Hello ladies and gents,
I've got a number of game ideas and am looking to see who is interested. Here are some ideas I am working with. Please let me know which of these ideas you would (1) be willing to play in if a game got started, and (2) that you reallywant to play, and want to push for.
1. A game set in myMother Tree universe, which is a vision of the real world, set in modern day coastal California. This game would be a sci-fi/political thriller/crime story/fantasy with lots of action and social elements. I would be using a d20 Modern system with a few things added but relatively little changed (i.e. those of you familiar with d20 Modern could play without fully reading much of the new rules, although it might still benefit you to do so as it would give your character more options to take advantage of certain situations).
2. A game set in myMother Tree universe, but in ancient China (~2000 B.C.) rather than in the modern day. I would probably use D&D classes as the base classes, but with a lot of the options and many of the classes removed. Options from other books for variant martial or stealth classes would be a serious option, as I would want to curtail magic a bit but still give players enough choices for it to be fun. The D&D standard races would be replaced by different cultural groups of humans, e.g. Han Chinese, Mongols, Koreans, Japanese, etc. which would have their own abilities and function similar to the D&D races.
3. A combination board-game/strategy-game/rpg, set in the Hylar universe that theJade Warrior and Citadel of Books took place in. The story would focus on the war with the Dark Prince that took place in the backstory of the Jade Warrior. PCs would play heroes who would chose to go on (relatively brief) quests to gain progress against the Dark Prince who is otherwise slowly waking up from his slumber and taking over/destroying the world, and would make strategic decisions of which quests to pursue, and how much energy to spend on pursuing pursue them (necessary to defeat the Dark Prince for good and win the war), versus how much to try to slow down the Dark Prince so that he doesn't destroy you first. The mechanics of quests and quest selection would be board game-like, but the quests themselves would be rpg adventures.
4. Another game set in the Hylar universe, but in the distant future, thevery distant future... what was once Tolkien's world (with the Hylar living somewhere off of the east edge of the map) being embroiled in this world's equivalent of World War II. The PCs take on the role of commanders or admirals working for the Hylarin military in a cooperative game trying to prevent the bad guys from waking up evils from the Elder Days. Combat will include a range of rpg-like commando operations as well as large-scale conflicts between tank battalions, fighter squadrons, battleships, and aircraft carriers, using a d20 Naval Combat system I have devised.
5. A game set in the distant past of an Arda/D&D-inspired world. The PCs will be bringing an end to the Age of the Aboleths and other eldritch abominations that existed before the more wholesome (and some less wholesome) creatures established the world. If you want to be a PC that is apowerful creature, you will want to play this one, and it will be the most traditionally D&D-like.
6. Another LotR game, although with a twist or two to be introduced during the game. PCs would belong to any of the races present in Tolkien's universe, but I would be revamping the magic system to make it more Tolkienian (i.e. lots of divination and enchantment, very limited evocation and conjuration). If I do this, then I want to place a premium on being "in-character" (e.g. the Rohirrim don't know very much about the Elves, and should behave accordingly in-game).
