I just got the game, it looks very cool, I'm wondering what's up with the first scenario though ?
I come down the path, grab the first city. Have tried various things in order to avoid the orcs, but they pretty much destroy me every time. I've tried the caravan but they just chase and kill me along the path.
Any insights ?

can you post a screenshot? as i remember, there is no orc
in AOW2 1st scenario. Also, the name of the 1st is "Fire Initiation Phase"

To thefinn RE: 'Horn of Kesh' campaign scenario...
-----------------------------------------------------------
This particular scenario can be a little bit tricky during the first three days. I should apologize because the advice I gave you in post #2 was not quite spot-on. (I have not played this scenario for over a year).
Well, I have just started playing the AOWSM campaign over again; so I can offer you better advice than in my previous post. (Although, you may have already moved on, and this topic is actually in the wrong section of the forum, still, someone might find this topic through a google search).
-----------------------------------------------------------
Tip #1...In the default setting, you are given the explorer skill and the unit enchantment of haste. Do not choose to customize your wizard or you may not survive the first three days.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Day one...
You start out in this scenario with only your wizard and a single horse archer.
I like to split my party by de-selecting the horse archer and then moving my wizard south into the nomad city where you gain control of the hero Ashela; while I use the horse archer to snag the nearby watermill.
Immediately, as the pop-up message suggests, you should order the nomad city to create a caravan! Meanwhile, I move Ashela to capture the tower and the pile of gold that are both visible to the northeast.
Finally, I make sure that I use all remaining movement to move everybody towards the east before I click on the end turn button.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Day two...
Karissa will declare war on you and then send her army north towards Ashela's position.
I recommend that you first cast haste on the slow moving caravan before moving so Karissa's army will not be able to catch up with you and then move everybody towards the east.
Click on the end turn button.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Day three...
Karissa's army will chase you but they will fall just short of catching up to your position at the end of day two so there is no sweat about running away from her army.
Mairnus will declare war.
Move everyone towards the northeast and click on the end turn button.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Tip #2...Choose a settlement spot for your caravan that is about three hexes away from the water so that you will be able to build the shipyard later on for it's gold income.
-----------------------------------------------------------
After this, you should be good to settle the caravan without getting wiped out. This is the advice I should have given you the first time!
Good luck!
