Hmmmm...
It would be a good idea, of course, but I keep wondering why you think a RMG will generate good balanced maps? The chance of getting a well balanced map is a lot bigger when you know good mapmakers that suit your wishes imo. I would tend to use these maps for challenging foes.
(in fact, remembering your posts, I tend to agree with your preferences for maps (Epic, teleportless (or very few tellies), emphasis on 'the players' making the story, etc? So you might want to try some of mine when I find the time...)
I know but very little programming but what I do know that it would be very hard to get good balanced maps on a random basis if you want to play maps you DON'T look at, beforehand.
There are a lot of factors that are important when making a map. The problem is, for the computer, they interact!!
Race placement x terrain placement x resource placement x City placement x starting units x Natural hazards x Wizards profile x etc
I still believe that 'man' would do a better job balancing this than a computer. I could ask Josh for conformation on this one...
But of course! Once having a well randomly generated map, tested and all.. I like your idea, don't get me wrong. But think it would never replace a good mapmaker on a structural basis. Could be wrong, though.
