Anyone can explain how does breathing attack acually work? I ask such basic question, because sometimes it can't touch a unit even if there is no obstacle on the line between the breathing unit and the unit being attacked and if the target hasn't any immunities. I think the reason why it happens is that breathing attack is acting from left to right or something like that and sometimes obstacles nearby, but not on the line, can cover the target.

I used to think that a breath attack couldn't hit a unit that was directly adjacent, but after careful observation, I chalk that up to statistics and confirmation bias.

Breath is a regular attack (i. e. with chance to miss), only spread over 12 hexes in a peculiar pattern. I'd bet that if you didn't hit a unit, it just means you have failed your attack roll against it.

I'm pretty sure that the Addendum does contain as much as I have just said. [ It's a very handy reference, it surely is, but in this case it doesn't help. ]
