In one of the last levels of the campaign, the highmen fight against the undead in a valley. The exact name excapes me at the moment, but it is a valley filled with human cities, partially wasted by reapers. It is full of goodies in the form of dungeons and monster lairs and it also promisses to have caves. At least, that is what it indicates on the world map in the upper left corner. I have played this level from both sides, and I like to think that I explored it to the brink, but I can't find any caves. Is there some secret, is it a glitch or am I missing something obvious?

Short and simple: There are no caves on the map, but there is an inaccessible cavern level.
The map was named The Pass of Grief btw.

Thank you Trashbarg. That is indeed the level I was talking about, but what is the fun of having an inaccessable cavern level. Or is it just to cause us faithful players grief?

Yes, Gildemeester, one of the tricks that mapmakers have at their disposal is to give a level of the map to the AI that you don't have access to. Then they can use teleports and timed releases to keep sending the enemy up to attack your forces

Wouldn't want the map-makers to make life TOO easy for us

Actually on this particular map the whole cavern level is just dirt, looks like the map maker made a mistake.
If anyone wants the map I can email it.

I wondered why a map by Dix - Journey into the Dark - had rows of short strange stone tunnels that you couldn't enter. Subsequently realised that having three floors packed full of inverted terrain left him with nowhere to hide away the timed releases
In other maps the AI may have a floor full of cities you can't access, producing lots of income for the AI Not this time though, from what Thrashbarg is saying
