Frogman has just educated me in our PBEM game of Blood Isles about the value of gold medal troops. Supposing I put a stack into TC against two spirit puppets. I have a troll with silver medal, an undead swordsman with silver medal, a hellhound with silver medal, two undead swordsmen with no medal and an undead archer with no medal. I have enough troops to easily win, so I can pick who makes the kills. Is it better to try to increase my silver medal troops to gold, particularly higher level troops like the troll? Should I aim to have a whole stack of silver medal troops, and then try to increase the whole stack to gold medal? Is it worth medalling up level one troops that can so easily be killed by higher level enemies?
Gold medal level one troops seem to be very effective against other level one troops, but presumably can disappear in one flash of the sword against a warlord
Or do I need to study the specific stats of each member of my stack, see what attributes they gain from a medal, choose which attributes would be most useful in my current circumstances and let that unit make the kills? The last choice seems quite logical, but not a lot of fun!
