A single-player map as the Undead. You basically battle your way across the land. Watch out for the Humans who have many Air Galleys.
Game Background: After taking over your own continent of Azroth, you, Necron Lord of Nightmares, have established a bastion of evil on a small island off the coast of Yrndia. Now you have secured a beach head in the realm of the Human King, Tyron and are ready to begin your conquest. You have heard that there are races below the earth here that may aid your invasion. The races of Yrndia are trying to hammer out their differences and band against you.. But you know that the powers of Necrull, god of death and decay are with you; their nightmare has just begun...... |

Hard to play, but very good. After my first try I couldn´t stop playing this map. I found and still find this scenario a hard nut to crack. But its possible. This one is the best map I ever played. Very good ! |

Playability: 4
A map that is fun enough that I completed it with no Leaders on map.
Balance: 3
You play the Undead, which means a single Wraith can annihilate most of your opposition.
I played with a modified (Wraiths only get Psyical Protection) Sword&Sorcery rule set instead.
Overall the map is too easy, with only the Humans and their Air Galleys being a threat in the beginning. The AI should have been given some high level heroes to strengthen the AI factions and give them more magic power.
Creativity: 3
Starts out promising, with several themed ruins with messages attached.
But no custom heroes with items, and not much interesting stuff to discover; not a single prison, for example. On the plus side all cities have custom names.
Map Design: 3
Overall map design is quite good, with 3 levels. Only half of the Depths seems to be used, though, and there is very little to discover, and very few lairs and ruins to find after the intitial three or so. I used several Drills, but in 70 turns they never found gold, so to speak.
There's quite a bit of choke points, but the way the AI works (like a timid turtle) it only helps the player, since the AI has no conception of holding and defending, only withdrawing. Choke points also lessens the dynamics of the game, with less chance for the various factions to clash with each other.
There's no Teleporters for the AI to use either, which make things more predictable and static.
Story/Instructions: 3
There's no story after the initial blurbs.
But if you want story, read a novel.
Additional Comments:
I hate this rating system. Subjectively I liked this map, despite it objectively having too many flaws.
Tips:
Play with Leaders on map to make things more interesting and dynamic. With Leaders the AI may even get a chance to cast Master spells, and if assassinated the new Independents will shake things up a bit.
The Hatred spell is very effective, and it makes things more interesting when enemy units start rebeling, but it means your own Orc and Goblin heroes will also eventually rebel.
