The Dire Dwarf Menace

Menenibob is a small world. Long, long ago a great war was fought for this world. Elves, and Dwarves fought side by side. Halflings lent aid as they could, and mysterious warriors called Highmen rode the flanks of the Army hurling holy magic into the fray. The army that they fought was one spawned from the depths of Sheol itself. Ruthless Orcs, and cunning Goblins, Dark Elves who had forsaken the light in the forests for the dark fire within their hearts, and foul fiends risen from fires and decay of the abyssl. The Humans and the Azracs watched the battle with bemusement. The Froslings and Lizards did not watch it at all. These races did not understand that the very world of Meneibob was the prize of the conflict.

When the smoke and ash had cleared a most amazing thing had happened. The forces of Evil had won! The Elves were utterly destroyed! The mysterious Highmen were eviscerated! The Halflings...well they just didn't stand a chance! Even the mighty Dwarves with their even mightier Giants were banished from the world. The Evil ones combined their dark magic of fire and death, and buried the entire nation of Dwarves under the very mountains that they loved. The Dwarves were thus destroyed...or so the evil ones thought.

Years past and the races of evil easily corrupted the nuetral races. The Dark Elves enslaved and assimilated the Humans, as did the Orcs with the Azracs. The Lizards became as the Goblins, and the Frostlings were conquered by Undeath.

More years past and the land was twisted by evil, and fire, and the races of the dark fires became bloated and content. But then a new glow was seen in the Dark Mountains and rumours emerged of the return of the Dwarves. This very thought caused the evil ones to recoil in fear, for in legend the Giants of the Dwarves had grown more mighty and the magic of the earth more dire.

Now the races of evil look to the Dark Mountains with apprehension, and fear plagues their lands. For the Dwarven menace is real, and the magic of the earth is dire!

Note From Daemon Zrat:

This is my first map and I would like to thank Arctic Wolf for helping out. Arctic rewrote the story for me, and made some awesome terrain changes to the map. Thanks Arctic!

Quite good map. Terrain is fine designed, and map is very challenging. Story is very good, but only in prologue - no Message Flags have been used, so I give only 4. I give 3 for balance, because I found playing Orcs much easier than other races. And some of items that can be found are useless against Dwarves! But map is quite good, as I wrote, so I'm waiting for your next map, Daemon Zrat!

I really like this map. The Dwarves are really tough and force you to develope separate strategies for them and your human opponent.

The only problem with the map is that the dwarves cannot be counted on to attack evenly leading to some imbalances.

As a first map Daemon Zrat did exceedingly well.

I played the map in a two player PBEM (which isn't what it was designed for, I know): Orcs vs Dark Elves.

I like the map! The game was still interesting after 45 turns, which is great.

The biggest problem is that the northern dungeons provide the northern player with two dragons, while the southern player will only get an incarnate and a fire elemental. Especially on a map with as much mountains as this one, the Dragons are superior. That's the reason for the lower balance rating I've given.

I played it as a two player pbem and had a lot of fun. The geography allowed for several different approaches to the enemy above and below ground. Mountains made it difficult to approach the Dwarves and they seemed determined to continue attacking with giants all game long. It wasn't over quick and allowed for shifts in momentum. The spells in the towers added a nice dimension and distraction.

The dungeon prisoners were not balanced and the 2 dragons up North are better than an incarnate and fire elemental down South. Minor changes to prisoners (4 dragons or 1 N, 1 S, etc..) would help the balance.

I really like multi-player maps that are not password protected, allows you to make those minor changes (which I'm bound to do in the future games).
