Arctic Clash

Author File Description
Eriksson
File Details
Ruleset: TS Standard Rules
Map Size: Medium
Playable Races: Some
Surface Levels: 1
Difficulty: Normal
Story:

The frostling lords have been leading their peoples without any major conflict for centuries now. And the explanation for that is simple, none of the other races have ever really been interested in this cold part of the world with all the ice and snow. And the frostlings haven't been very interested in the other parts of the world either.

Unfortunatly two of the frostling lords have both heard rumors about the other one preparing for war and now a civil war among the different tribes is near. The rest of the world couldn't care less but here, in the arctic lands, no one is safe as the two mad lords march out to try and get the advantage over the other before the blood makes the white lands red...

Info:

This medium sized map was made to be a well balanced 1 vs 1 map for the Wizards Ladder. It's frostlings vs frostlings even if one of the players use the human colours.

Playable races: Frostlings & Frostlings :O)

Any comments or ratings for this map would be most welcome thanx :O)

This is a great well balanced PBEM map.

The only slight problem I had with this map is the way the map is almost perfectly symetrical, but thats just a matter of taste and a very minor fact at that. Also the well laid out terrain more than compensates for the above fact.

All in all a very good map.

This is a very well balanced 2 player map, but the balance is achieved the "easy" way by making it symmetrical which should ensure equal chances for both players. Some players think that symmetrical = bad, but especially for a two player competetive map I have no objection at all to symmetry. The randomization of the starting armies can tip the balance a bit though - I'd much rather start with two Northern Glows than with two Frost Queens.

I like the layout of the terrain, and the symmetry isn't really disturbing the look of the landscape.

There are a number of different paths to take to get to the opponent, so there are lots of room for strategic decisions.

I like this map!

Eriksson has made another tremendous map!!

If you look at the map closely you will see that his attention to detail is astounding. Every sigle feature on the map has its counterpoint giving the map exquisite balance. I graded it down a notch on playability and design not because the map had flaws but instead because the map had only a suface level. I just couldn't give perfect scores on sucha small map. As well I notice the same items (Kerim's Ringmail for instance) on this map as on Eriksson's others. More new items would be a nice touch.

But those points are just niggles, The only real flaw the map has is a lack of a quality story to go with it. The story is fine, but not nearly as good as the map!
