Paladins Quest

Author File Description

Ruleset: TS Standard Rules
Map Size: Small
Playable Races: One
Surface Levels: 3
Difficulty: Normal
This is a role-playing map with alot of text and quite a few optional quests with their own rewards. There are tons of text bubbles that develop the story.

You play a Paladin of the Holy Brotherhood of the Sun who returns to his home city to find it has been destroyed. The Paladin embarks on a quest of retribution that quickly becomes something much more.

This is an early creation, but it played just fine when I tested it myself. Of course, I know where everything is and all that... :) So any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Am I rating my own map? I'm not! I swear it! :) FFBJ tried to rate this map, said he had trouble submitting, and told me I could submit his posts to the forum. Which, to prove the legitimacy of my claim, can be read here:

Paladins Quest: A fine map with a wonderful detailed story
and great characterization. Difficult map is brutal, even vindictive at times, a real challenge. Salamanders! Yikes! Fine use of terrain makes this a map well worth a players time.
Good Job! Cry Havoc. (ffbj)

------------

I tried to rate your map but for some reason it doesn't work
for me. I tried to rate another map earlier with the same result. I wonder if anyone else has been having this problem. Or if it is somehow due to my firewall. Anyway I gave you (3) 4's and (2) 5's for the story which is about the best I've read and for creativity. I basically said the sme things I wrote here. If you want to submit my comments feel free to.

Any negatives? Well. I never went for Atlantis. Or across
the serpent infested river. Gak? I went underground got stripped down to just my leader as I went for the orcs. By then I was so powerful I easily finished off the Orc king.
Meanwhile my holdings on the surface were destroyed by undead. Cute that. But I did manage to kill the bone horror and the black dragon with my archer/ballista stack.

By the time I got the sword in the crypt I was already a 10/10. That sword may be a little too powerful and unneccesarily so. To get it most player will already have a high attack and defense, but I like the 3 damage. The fight with the high templar was good, I had to cast remedy 3 times. But the fight with Ras Tasus, was rather anticlimatic. Maybe you could give him a couple of dragons.
To offset the astras. Maybe you could set a few demons stacks on raid, so they actually destroy cities and burn income. I had plenty of gold. A small thing, I took the spell from the wizards tower with the eagle rider so I didn't have to fight the guardians, maybe you should put a flyer in that stack.

Finally I think you should give a valkyrie to the highmen position. Maybe its on its way back from patrol just like you are. It would really help. I think some players may blanch at the difficult starting position.

Starts out fine, before the spawn-feast begins. It's not amusing to have black dragons spawn right beside your cities. What's the point of that? Why do mapmakers love playing around with teleporters?

Story is a 5.

Map could have been more detailed.

But it's playable alright...

This is one of the most fun quests I have played so far. The reason I'm only giving a three in playability, is that I had to try the map six times before the elves would survive round number six or seven. My guess is, the elven leader went straight for the power nodes and died fighting the golden dragons. Also, I thought it was a bit too easy near the end, but I think that's inevitable. With a single leader fighting all the battles, he becomes a god in a matter of hours. Still, very funny and very creative.

What can I say? First Player made map fro me, and I really loved it.

It was really fun to play, bottom line.

It was kinda hard to keep up with, with everything attacking at once, but besides that, it was fun.

The storyline idea wasn't tht creative. I'm sure it's been done in several Fantasy books, however, it was just done so unbelievably well, I can't really complain about that.

Overall, I'd suggest this game to anyone wanting a well done dark storyline with their strategy.
Dwarvenhelm Hey! This was an amazing game! The details made me think one of the developers made it! I'm a tough critic, too, and I had fun!
