The Eye of Yaka

Author File Description

File Details
Ruleset: TS Standard Rules
Map Size: Large
Playable Races: Some
Surface Levels: 2
Difficulty: Normal
Surface Minimap:
The Eye of Yaka is a 2v2 multiplayer map.
It features the Orcs and Goblins against the Elves and Dwarves.

You starting position is close to your ally. Together, you fight and claim objectives, towns and farms and conquer the land. Team play pays off.

There is a lot of "eye candy" to be found on the map along the rivers, jungles and desert sands. There are also multiple dungeons and item rewarding instances, such as ziggurats and monster caves.

There are custom heroes, with unique skills, from rifle shooting to dominate and entangle.

Map rules:

Exploration: on or off
Allied Victory: on
Leaders on map: off, very important. There are custom made heroes with the same portret of your leader in game. Play it with leaders off.
Customize Leaders: on or off, whatever you preffer. You may change your spheres if you'd like; there are nodes of each kind present on the map.

Any kind of comments and feedback on it are appreciated!

Map description:

"After the fall of the Elven Court, both the Cult of Storms and The Keepers were in a rush of claiming territories and enrolling aditional soldiers to their ranks. This 'race' was taken to the extreme and soon, both factions had extended their sphere of influence in the harsh, cruel deserts of the south.

This specific region, named by locals "The Eye of Yaka" is a most uncommon patch of land. Water is not scarce here, the numerous rivers feed the land. The numerous jungles and oasis provide sufficient food for animals to live here. The land is sacred to the Azracs; their sacred parchments say that this is the place where Yaka first descended into the world from his fiery throne in the skies to bring wealth, fertility and fortune to the sand people.

Not particularilly interested in fairytales, the Cult of Storms and the Keepers enter the region, in an attempt to persuade the Azrac people to join them and to feast on the rich resources these lands provide.

But there is only one way to prove your worthiness to the Azracs: through combat!"

Have fun!

Yemguy This is a really cool map! I loved it. I'm very new here and all, but someone please enlighten me; how do you place horseless leaders?!? Anyways, this was great fun. Keep creating!

Hello Yemguy and welcome to the community! Thanks for your words. Unfortunately, I can't remember exactly what it was that allowed you to place mountless heroes, but it should be an addon found in the Misc Downloads section of the site http://aow.heavengames.com/downloads/lister.php?category=misc .

My guess is you need the so-called 'mapmaker' addon. Other stuff I use are the 1.36 - 1.00 converter and the Arctic Library.

have fun

Very playable, great fun to dominate the map as the Orcs. Snagging a few dominate creatures really helps in this map! Unfortunately, this map suffers from what I can only call a 'lack of communications' to a small extent. Large open area of desert, small proportion of cities and an xl map can be painful to get across. It took me 60 turns to win this map; with all-Human players, I think it could be halved. My Goblin ally became sidelined around Day 20.

Balance: 3
There is a good chance for all races, with my good self playing as the Orcs and then the Dwarves. This score took a hit by the symmetry, which is in keeping with the 'eye', but still no harm in mixing up the city placement. Superbly balanced nonetheless.

Creativity: 4
Great spin on the landscape and story, shame the desert theme runs out of its novelty after some time. It is also symmetrical, but the beautiful terrain, wealth of items and great little nooks make this very creative.

Map Design: 3
Symmetry is a pain, while undergrounds are simply built for travelling through - again, lack of communications. Still, great eye pattern!

Story/Instructions: 4
Competent and filled with fine signage.

Additional Comments:

Great map! It sated my desire for a big desert map, but it took a while to finish in one sitting. Is essentially designed for multiplayer, so playing with 4 players would make for one exciting match.

Thanks for your comments and rating ,CSH, they're the first I've gotten in ages. :P

Although originally meant to be more of a "jungle" themed map, I wanted to keep the desert feeling to it, and so I made it XL and kept large, open sand dune zones all around.

I really didn't want to add any underground on this map but I decided it would be better to use underground passages to move around, rather than plain teleporters. It's more of a race to conquer objectives at first and only after that the battle begins. But there are ways to 'rush' your opponents ;)

I'm glad you liked it and thanks again for your comment.

There are so many hidden secrets to this map. it'd take hours to find them all.

Balance: 5
Both sides are PERFECTLY, FLAWLESSLY balanced.

Creativity: 5
It's a wonderful idea and very hard to accomplish. You need to be friends with the Azracs to basicall even have a hope of survival.

Map Design: 5
One of the most beautiful maps I've ever seen. Honestly, this map is gorgeous.

Story/Instructions: 5
Very creative idea, and you stuck to the story the whole time. Coulda used a few more text bubbles, but not so much that I'll mark it down.

Additional Comments:
This is probably my favorite map out there. I HIGHLY suggest that everyone plays it.
Yemguy Oh yeah, and thanks for the advice, sKout!
