I'm inclined to agree with Artic Wolf's suggestions, or at least the general idea. If I read them right they would boil down to the following:
1. Any absence (announced or not) over 1 week requires a sub; if you don't name one, Enginerd chooses one for you.
2. If you go completely AWOL (> 2 weeks with no note) you're disqualified.
Sounds reasonable. One issue that might come up in close matches is that the skill level of a temporary sub may alter the outcome of the match. So if we agree on Arctic's rules, maybe someone (Enginerd) should decide how subs are chosen.
For example, should subs be randomly chosen from a pool? I'm not sure about this...I don't think I want to entrust my game to a random person if I can help it. On the other hand, I'm not sure I should be free to choose any other player (who isn't already in the game) even if my choice gives me an advantage.

It appears most of the games in the tourney are moving. There does appear to some that are slow. I've emailed Thorongil again about getting to his turns. If he does not by the end of the weekend I'll start looking for subs to get thost games going.
Check your games and make sure you're not the one holding things up in case it isn't Thorongil. I still need to get the headers updated with the subs and I'm hoping to get through all the turn logs in the next couple days.

Talked to Thorongil, he doesn't have any turns so he thinks resends are in order. I've sent him one. If you send to him then pass it along. He is hoping to make to the boards to post.
Also, updated several turn log headers with all the subs.

I agree with Sir Wulf; there's no reason not to just add "turn sent" to the turn logs. I'd also like to reiterate my previous idea that posting away messages would be very helpful.
I don't mean to single anyone out for holding up a game, but I recently noticed that all four of my games had been completely stuck for over a week. So I personally feel we should do something to cut down on that.

Not sure which idea you're referring to:
If you're away, you should try to post an away message before you leave. If you just sent the turn, I would assume you have internet access, but if you only have email, I don't think anyone is going to trouble you about it.
Sir Wulf and I were just making suggestions, and even if they became rules, our competitors seem to be a pretty understanding bunch, certainly not overzealous when it comes to enforcing the rules, so I wouldn't worry about this sort of thing.

@ CSH - Sorry to see you drop out. I'll start looking for a sub in all your tourney games.

For the sake of moving the tourney along I suggest we just surrendar CSH's position in all his games and keep this thing moving.

Currently we need two subs, one for CSH and another for Thorongil. It seems like BalakofThorn might be interested in taking CSH's position. So we just need to find another one for Thorongil.

@ Arctic Wolf: Surrendering his empire could give his neighbors an unfair advantage, so I'd rather we hold that idea as a last resort. I'm next to him in one game and I'd rather have a sub if we can find one. But if everyone agrees it's taking too long, I'd go along with your idea.
